Motor learning is the process leading to a change in the capability of producing a skilled action- what we call practicing. We all know from spending hours upon hours in the practice room that not all practicing is the same.
Read MoreHi I’m Justine- clarinetist and licensed physical therapist. After going through conservatory training I hit a low point when in 2013 I suffered an overuse injury to my hands. On top of that I had a multitude of stress induced musculoskeletal issues, so much so that my body did not seem to obey my command anymore. I knew how the clarinet worked, but I did not understand the human body- so I started studying anatomy and physiology. This eventually led to me completing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2022. My blog, “Kinesiology for Musicians” is about the movement science that helped me transform my playing and my wellbeing.
Through the discipline of Physical Therapy, I have expanded and informed my clarinet practice to include principles of motor learning based in research. As a board-certified Neurological Clinical Specialist in physical therapy, I utilize a method of teaching and learning movement based in current research both in and out of the clinic.
Private and group coachings available.
